On July 25, 2020, the one week lasting Zhejiang University “Internet of Things: System and Security” summer camp was successfully concluded on the Yuquan campus of Zhejiang University.
This summer camp is hosted by the School of Cyber Science and Technology, Zhejiang University. It invited 11 domestic and foreign scholars and experts in the field of Internet of Things to give a series of wonderful keynote speeches and academic lectures. Focusing on Internet of Things, wireless perception, privacy protection, hardware attack, and other hot issues, in-depth discussions on cutting-edge research was conducted to show the latest scientific research progress in IoT systems and security. The summer camp was held online. Doctoral, master and undergraduate students from more than 20 domestic universities participated in the activity, and the number of online participants reached nearly 300.
On the first day of the summer camp, Prof. Kui Ren, Dean of the School of Cyber Science and Technology, gave an opening speech. Prof. Feng Lin hosted over the lecture. Prof. Jinsong Han, Prof. Zhongjie Ba, Prof. Fan Zhang, and Prof. Li Lu attended the presentation. The first talk was lectured by Professor Xinyu Zhang from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, University of California San Diego. He shared how to enhance video performance on cellular networks. In the second talk, Professor Yao Liu from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida shared her latest research results – no training barriers: fast training of unknown attacks to infer input content.
In the following week, Prof. Tei-Wei Kuo, Dean of the School of Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, delivered his sharing on the intermittent computing and data access control of the Internet of Things; Prof. Elisa Bertino from Purdue University talked about the roadmap for research on Internet of Things privacy and security; Prof. Tarek Abdelzaher from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign shared his research on the machine learning challenges faced by the Internet of Things; Prof. Gian Pietro Picco from University of Trento shared on the new paradigms of ultra-wideband concurrent transmission and localization; Prof. Zhang Qian from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology shared her research results on how IoT sensing can establish a connection between digital space and physical world; Prof. Yingying Chen from Rutgers University shared the latest work on Internet of Things security and smart health; Prof. Luoyi Fu from Shanghai Jiaotong University delivered a lecture on knowledge discovery and knowledge measurement in academic big data space; Prof. Wenyao Xu from the State University of New York at Buffalo gave a wonderful talk on innovations in Internet of Hearable Things; Dr. Junfeng Fan, founder and CEO of Shenzhen Newtron Technology Development Co., Ltd., introduced hardware offensive and defense technologies, and introduced research in this field in combination with actual attack cases and research trends.
Students who participated in the ZJU online IoT system and security summer school said that they had gained and benefited a lot. We look forward to the next year’s IoT system and security summer camp to have face-to-face communications with our invited scholars and more exciting activities.
